The Cobham brand is one of the oldest and most respected in the defence and aerospace market. With over 11,000 employees across 5 continents, Cobham is truly a global company. Cobham SATCOM, a division of Cobham, uses state-of-the-art technologies to develop satellite communication equipment.
X Studios was tasked to work with a team of Cobham engineers to come up with a web based application that integrated with their hardware to control some of their satellite product line. A web application that controlled such expensive hardware required flawless execution. Needless to say, our team was very excited at the prospect of creating such a power web application.
One of the main objectives was to create a rich user interface that worked across all platforms including mobile browsers. High-level wireframes were first designed, in order to establish the overall layout. This allowed the Cobham engineers to work on the hardware aspects of integration while having a visual footprint of the interface.
A series of functional tools were created to assist satellite integrators in setting up their satellites via the web interface. A jog tool allows users to control the rotation of all mechanical aspects including the azimuth, elevation and pol adjustments, even from the convenience of a mobile phone or tablet. Controlling a satellite dish has never been more intuitive.
Advanced diagnostic tools can alert the operator in real-time of all satellite related data. Some of the data displayed includes GPS data, strength of signal, and internal system messaging and more all from a web interface.
